Trimming below the belt needn’t be a chore. These pubic hair trimmers promise nick-free manscaping, every time

Unless you embrace the 'au naturel' approach with your pubic hair, you probably try to maintain a well-groomed nether region – otherwise known as the not-so- age-old practice of manscaping. But regardless of whether you’re a seasoned pubic gardener or new to the world of below-the-belt styling, trimming your balls can be a daunting task. That's where the best pubic hair trimmers can be of service.

Designed to provide a nick-free shave, the best pubic hair trimmers have skin-safe blades that are engineered to minimise the likelihood cutting your skin and to gently trim your hair without pulling. None are perfect, however, the five featured on this list, when combined with proper technique and patience, are all well equipped to effectively style, trim and shave your hair below the belt, without any mishaps.

The best shaver for you will ultimately come down to the results you want – be it full on clean-shaving, trimming or light tidy-ups. To help you make that choice, I've spent time testing a handful of pubic hair trimmers, putting my own body on the line in the interest of this guide to recommend the best devices worth buying. But before we get into my recommendations, these are a few things to consider before buying.

During the testing period, I noticed some key features that are worth keeping an eye out for. From battery life to attachments to waterproofing, these consideration will help make your manscaping session that much easier.

It’s comes down to personal preference whether you trim wet or dry. All the pubic hair trimmers in this guide are fully waterproof and can therefore be used in the shower or rinsed under a tap to clean. You might find it tidier to trim in the shower, as the water from your shower head will wash away the clippings. If you have sensitive skin, manscaping in the shower can also help to keep irritation to a minimum, as the heat and steam from hot water can help to open up your pores and soften the hair follicles.

Alternatively, you can trim dry (after a thorough wash and clean). Trimming dry will give you more control and therefore a better chance of a more even finish, as wet hair will appear differently when it dries. Wet clippings also tend to clog up up the blade more quickly than dry hair.

You may not always want to go for the bald eagle, so check your trimmer comes with clip-on length guards or, even better, a built-in length adjuster. These allow you to trim your hair down to different lengths and styles.Guards are also important when it comes to protecting your skin, particularly if you’re using an all-in-one trimmer – like the the Braun Series 5 – which don't have the same skin-safe blades as out-and-out pubic hair devices. Using bare blades without guard is fine for tidying up your neckline, but using them below the belt, where your skin is more sensitive, can increase the likelihood of causing nicks and cuts.

While not as crucial as other aspects, extras are still worth thinking about. Some trimmers come bundled with convenient accessories like charging bases, extra trimmer heads, and even nose hair trimmer attachments. Even a simple carry case can be a handy addition when travelling. But you also don't want too many attachments. Having a pile of clip-on guards might give you more lengths to choose between, but switching between them will also make your manscaping sessions less time efficient.

Like any grooming devices, run time is something worth considering. Opt for a pubic hair trimmer with a modest battery life and you run a greater risk of running out of juice half way through trimming. With in mind, look for devices with quick-charge features and battery life indicators, which will tell you when it's time to re-charge.

I've tested every body groomer and pubic hair trimmer in this guide, plus more that I haven't featured. Using each tool to trim my body hair and pubic hair, I evaluated each trimmer's cutting ability, battery life, water resistance claims and performance, along with the quality and effectiveness of any attachments and accessories.

'On the cutting edge of cutting pubes' boasts Manscaped on its website, and I'd have to agree. From the skin-safe ceramic blades to the clip-on guards and foil shaver attachment, The Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the best pubic hair trimmer I tested, earning its position at the top of this guide.

The Pros: The Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra may indeed be on the cutting edge of manscaping, but you never feel on the edge when using it. Both the trimmer and foil blade work excellently, and utilise Manscape's signature SkinSafe technology to help prevent against nicks and cuts. I never felt stressed using the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra, especially with one of the two comb guards attached. On shorter stubble, the foil shaver also cut hair down to smooth finish, without causing any irritation or redness. The built-in LED flashlight also ensured that everything was well lit when trimming in darker conditions.

The Cons: When using it in the shower, I found the The Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra was less effective than when trimming dry. Switching between the clip-on guards was also a bit of a faff and are prone to being misplaced. However, the travel case does help to keep all the extra attachments safe and organised.

Quick and straightforward to use, the Philips Bodygroom Series 7000 is a double-sided body hair trimmer that does away with unnecessary attachments, allowing you get on with the job at hand with minimal fuss.

The Pros: The dual-sided design allows you seamless transition between trimming and shaving without having to switch between interchangeable heads. This functionality really shone when I was trimming in the shower, when all I had to do was spin the shaver around to use the other head, rather than clip on and off a handful of attachments. The same goes for the adjustable trimmer comb, which gives you five length settings ranging from 3mm up to 11mm.

The Cons: With this trimmer, I'd strongly advise against using the bare razor head without the guard attachment and to take extra caution even with it on. The Philips Series Bodygroom 7000 is technically a body hair trimmer as opposed to an out-and-out pubic hair trimmer, so the blade isn't 'skin-safe' to the extent than the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra, for example. That also means that the lowest length you can go down to (aside from clean shaving) is 3mm.

The Braun Body Groomer 5 limits the risk of cuts and nicks with its signature 'SkinShield' tech and sensitive comb, which lets you get as close a shave as possible without your skin touching the blades.

The Pros: When I tested the Body Groomer 5, it delivered a totally irritation-free shave and it was good at getting into those hard-to-reach areas. For body hair, the built-in length adjuster on the top right hand side also allows you to alter the closeness of your shave without any faff. The foil attachment did a great job at leaving a silky smooth finish, and being fully waterproof, it was easy to clean.

The Cons: Again, like the Philips Bodygroom Series 7000, this isn't an outright pubic hair trimmer, so proceed with caution when using it below the belt and especially without the intimate comb attachment. There's also no length adjuster for the pubic hair comb.

If you can't get on board with the idea of motorised steel blades vibrating around your balls, you should know that the old-fashioned way of shaving your pubic hair is still a viable option, provided you buy a razor that's gentle on your skin.

The Pros: With three precision blades designed to provide a close finish and slice through thick hairs with ease, The Crop Shaver from Manscaped is specifically designed for shaving the groin without any mishaps. The pivoting head and ergonomic design ensure you can glide around your entire pubic region (and other areas) with confidence and full control. Meanwhile, the extra wide lubrication strips fortified with avocado oil, argan oil, aloe vera, and vitamin E help to reduce irritation and soothe your skin.

The Cons: The razor is smaller than I expected it to be. It's also not suitable for longer growth.

Believe it or not, relying on a beard trimmer to handle all your grooming needs without any additional investment may not be the wisest decision. Let's face it, using the same device to trim both your facial hair and your intimate regions is a questionable choice.

Aside from basic hygiene considerations, subjecting your balls to a fast-moving, deep-cutting beard trimmer sounds like a scene straight out of a horror flick. Manscaping requires finesse, precision, and a healthy dose of patience.

To sculpt your pubic hair without any bloodshed, you'll need the assistance of a dedicated pubic hair trimmer or full body groomer – or, failing that, a dedicated body hair attachment. These nifty devices typically boast long-lasting batteries, protective guards to safeguard your prized possessions, ergonomically designed handles for optimal control, and even a handy LED light to guide your way with care. Here's what to look for when shopping for one.
